Key Notes- Vandana Shiva: Decolonize the Mind

Updated: May 6, 2020

The way farms were built were akin to forests. Permanent systems. In Sir Albert Howard Learnt from pests and peasants. Farming in the orient, was as perineal as the forest. Because it was based on the principles of the forest. The principles of the forest are diversity and the" law of return". Returning nutrients, returning water to the land.

Decolonialism as a law of return to something that we were always intended for.

On the basis of my own work and research, organic though biodiversity is the only way it will work. The industrial agriculture has low productivity when you measure it against real output. This situation can be understood by relfecting on the psychology of the mind of those partaking in this industry and can be summarised by the phrase, the monoculture of the Mind. Due to, the mono-culture of the mind diversity is unseen. All sustainable farm has based on diversity. This affects the soil.

The human mind teaches us to see connections, but after centuries of this new wave of patriarchal thinking, the min forgets to make connections. The mind cannot see connection- the fragmented mind.

How can we reconnected within ourselves and the earth?

It is an internal process- letting go of what you have been thought. First connect to nature. Recognising the power of nature's work. Connect to our mothers? Grateful to life?

We have to learn to connect from both social connections of community and the natural connections for natural ecological support.
