the travelling compost

Recently I have visited studio and started using the compost bin, which has encouraged the few around studio to start using it as well, knowing I usually empty the bin at my home. The above image is of me travelling from the city to Sunny vale, from Sunnyvale to Pakuranga

I didn't think I would ever not this, the compost is a very banal ordinary thing for me, but since a few people have pointed out the strange in it, I thought, it could be significant to think about.

I usually take home the food scraps for the compost at home.

Things have struck me conceptually

  • Having everyone put their food, scraps, ephemeral bits and bobs into my compost; the self is like compost, integrating the ephemera of others.

  • They say the best composts, are those that accumulate diverse sources, from old, the mildewed, the scraps, the whole all of these resources

  • Furthermore, parts of food we consider inedible are usually the most nutrient-rich, conceptually if compost is self, then so-called ephemera can be nutritiously dense.

  • a compost that travels collects resources from a variety of environment can provide the most beneficial soil for future fertility. these resources need to be properly conditioned with care to be able to produce compost efficiently.

  • The compost bin is alive, it's full of bacteria and the odour isn't so strong because it is sealed tightly. It's quite interesting seeing the repulsive behaviour of people who I have travelled with regarding the compost. Its a similar reaction to stepping on dog poop. We have culturally evolved to be so removed from the process of decayed matter that anything remotely decomposed, is largely avoided.
